About

I’m 36 years old. The same age as Ray Kinsella, the protagonist in “Field of Dreams.” Like Ray, I’m a husband, a father, I once heard of Iowa, and I’m going to spend some time this summer driving across the country, attending some baseball games and hoping to find some magic.

I’m a teacher. My wife is not a teacher. Which means I’ve got a lot of free time this summer and she doesn’t. Our 12-year-old daughter, Abby, is away at camp for the summer. Our 9-year-old son, Sam (The Hamster from the title of the blog), is at sleepaway camp for the first time, but only for two weeks. After those two weeks, it’s just going to be him and me at home most of the time. So we’ve decided not to stay home at all.

As soon as The Hamster finishes camp, he and I are taking an epic, five-week, father-son, cross-coutry road trip. We’ll be driving (well, I’ll be driving) our Toyota Solara convertible from New York all the way to the Pacific Ocean and back again. This blog will chronicle our journey.
